The Living Guarantee

Every other brand hands you a care sheet and wishes you luck.

You're buying something alive, so here's what that means in practice. Send us a photo the moment anything looks wrong - any day, for as long as you own it. A real person answers. If a plant doesn't come back, the replacement is free and we don't ask you to prove anything.

Customer photo Hi - this corner's gone brown since it arrived. Did I break it?
That's shipping stress, not you - really common in the first fortnight. Move it off the windowsill, direct sun is cooking it. Give it a week?
Still brown, sadly.
No problem at all. Sending you a replacement cushion moss today, no charge. Keep the old one in - it may well recover once the new piece settles.

The real risk

The worst outcome isn’t hating it. It’s being polite about it.

You spend an hour choosing something. They open it, say exactly the right thing, and by March it’s in a drawer. What you were actually trying to say never lands.

What usually happens

  • ×Candle burns down inside a fortnight
  • ×Gift card expires unspent
  • ×Nice mug joins eleven other mugs
  • ×Houseplant dies by week three
  • ×Quietly re-gifted next Christmas

What happens with this

  • First thing they see at their desk each morning
  • Something to look at when the day goes sideways
  • Colleagues keep asking where it came from
  • Still alive and growing years later
  • A standing reminder that you paid attention

What arrives

The box is part of the gift.

It doesn’t turn up looking like an order. No invoice, no prices, no branded tape. Just a weighted box, tissue, your card on top, and a garden that survived the journey inside a shell moulded to its exact shape.

Video · 9:16 · 15–25sUnboxing, start to finishHands only. Lid off, tissue parted, card lifted and read, garden revealed. Ambient sound, no music.

Arrival

It lands on the day you name

Pick the birthday, the first Monday at the new job, the anniversary. We hold it and ship it to arrive that day — to them or to you, whichever you prefer.

Your words

A real card, not a packing slip

What you write goes onto a premium card inside the box, next to the care notes and the story of how their garden was built. For most people that card is the part they keep.

No risk

Sixty days, no questions

If they open it and it isn’t right — wrong desk, wrong moment, wrong everything — send it back inside 60 days and we return every penny.

Watering the terrarium

The worry you haven’t said out loud

They are not going to kill this one.

This is the real reason people hesitate before giving something alive — you don’t want to hand someone a chore, or worse, something that dies on their watch and makes them feel bad. The glass is sealed, so most of the water recycles itself. Moss survives on bare rock, through winter, in the dark.

  • Every 5–7 days
    A small pour of water

Filtered, mineral or purified. That’s the whole routine.

  • Now and then
A snip, if they feel like it

Trim anything that outgrows the shape. Entirely optional.

  • Whenever
    A wipe of the glass

A damp cloth keeps the view clear. Two minutes, once a month.

Six hours, by hand

We can only make so many in a week.

There’s no production line. A designer builds each garden by hand, and it sits drying for six hours before anyone touches it again — which is why stock moves in small batches, and why no two are quite identical.

01

Sourcing

Natural stone, wood and living moss chosen piece by piece. Nothing plastic goes in.

02

Composing

Each element placed by hand and adjusted until the scene sits right. The one you get is the one someone built.

03

Setting

Six hours of drying locks the landscape in place, then a final inspection before it’s packed into its shell.

Video · 16:9 · 20–30s Hands building one Overhead, close, no faces. Tweezers placing moss, stone being seated, the tree going in last.

Every element placed with tweezers

Desk-sized, on purpose.

Big terrariums end up on a shelf. They need somewhere to live, they're awkward to move, and within a month nobody looks at them. This one is built to hold the corner of a desk you're already staring at - close enough to notice the moss changing week to week, small enough that nobody ever has to find it a home.

On the price

$169.99 is about what people spend on a gift that gets opened once.

The dinner, the bottle, the experience day. All lovely, all finished by Sunday. This one gets looked at every morning for years, and it’s still there the week they actually need it.

I gave this to my husband for his birthday. He's not usually emotional about gifts, but he teared up. Said it was the first gift in years that showed I really understood what he's been going through with work stress.

My sister has anxiety and I never know how to help without being pushy. I gave her one with a note about moments when you need grounding. She called me crying happy tears. Said it makes her feel so supported.

Bought the Zen Garden for my team of 8 as thank-you gifts after a brutal project. Every single person messaged me saying it was the most thoughtful work gift they'd ever received. Worth every penny.

My apartment is all black and dark purple. Got the Zen Garden ironically. Jokes on me because now it's my favorite thing and I'm questioning my whole aesthetic.

Chloe R.

I was worried it was too expensive for a housewarming gift, but the couple called it the most unique and beautiful thing they received. So glad I went with this.

It came wrapped really well and has made a beautiful addition to my desk. I added water, set up the light, and now I'm just waiting on a little fish to finish it off.

Before you decide

The things people ask first.

What exactly does the Living Guarantee cover?

The living contents, for as long as you own it. Email us a photo whenever something looks wrong - yellowing, thinning, mould, anything. A real person replies with what to do. If a plant doesn't recover, we send a replacement free. No receipt hunting, no claim form, no time limit.

How big is it, really?

Desk-sized - it holds a corner, not a whole surface. Exact dimensions are in the table above. We build at this scale deliberately: larger terrariums get relocated to a shelf within a month and stop being looked at, which defeats the point. This one stays in your field of view, which is where it does its job.

What if they're not into zen or meditation at all?

Most recipients aren't. 73% of our customers bought this for someone with no particular interest in mindfulness, and they loved it anyway - because what they actually get is a beautiful object that draws compliments, something calming to look at on a bad day, and a plant that refuses to die. None of that requires believing in anything.

Honestly, is this too much for this relationship?

It sits in the same bracket as a good dinner for two or a decent bottle, which is roughly where most people land for a partner, a sibling, a close friend, or a team thank-you. Where it differs is that a dinner ends on Sunday. If you're shopping for an acquaintance or a Secret Santa, this is probably above the line, and we'd rather tell you that than take the order.

Can you ship it straight to them?

Yes, and it arrives looking like a gift rather than an order: premium packaging, no prices visible anywhere, your message on a card, care instructions tucked inside. Prefer to hand it over yourself? Ship it to your address instead and we'll still include the card.

Are the plants real?

All of it. Living moss, living plants, natural stone and wood. Nothing in the glass is plastic, which is exactly why it keeps changing slightly as the months go by.

What if it arrives damaged?

Tell us and we fix it, usually the same day. Every garden ships inside a moulded foam shell built to its exact dimensions, but glass travels and occasionally things go wrong. You'll never be asked to prove it.

What occasions does this actually suit?
  • New job, promotion, first office
  • Birthdays for people who are impossible to shop for
  • Housewarmings and graduations
  • Retirement and milestone anniversaries
  • Thank-yous for mentors, teachers and teams
  • The moments with no occasion at all
